Integrated Work, Home, and Recreational Surroundings

Urban development will create ideal work, home and recreational surroundings and make the area more attractive to visitors.
In the Abeno District, a hub of south Osaka, we plan to develop integrated work, home and recreational surroundings by promoting businesses around the revamped station building and constructing high-quality housing. We will also make this district more attractive by providing convenient access to the recreational and commercial facilities around the terminal and by developing large areas into exciting new facilities.

Abeno District: Community Planning and Future Projects

In the Abeno Urban Redevelopment Project, the district to be redeveloped is divided into two zones: the eastern zone will be a business and commercial center, and the western zone will be the site of sophisticated high-rise condominiums.

The Abeno Urban Redevelopment Project is being accelerated, with a "specified constructor" appointed in June 2006, who undertakes the construction and operation of the A2 and A1-2 buildings - large commercial facilities that constitute the core of the redevelopment project.
A2 Building

A large commercial complex is under construction. With a locally-oriented general supermarket and large specialty shops that will attract visitors from across the region at its core, this multifaceted facility will house various kinds of retail shops and restaurants.
A1-2 Building

A multipurpose building with residential units, a hotel and offices is being constructed.

Development of this zone focuses on extending the Tennoji and Abeno terminal facilities southward to facilitate commercial and business activity.

The Kintetsu Department Store purchased the former site of the Osaka Prefectural Government’s staff housing, where a commercial and cultural complex named “and” was constructed and opened in 2008, and has since been enhancing the appeal and raising the profile of this zone. With the addition of this new facility, the area south of Hoop has been developed as another urban center and is attracting an increasing number of visitors.

Abenobashi Terminal Building Tower Pavilion(tentative name)
This building, which is directly accessible to and from the Tennoji and Abeno terminal facilities, especially Kintetsu Osaka-Abenobashi Station, will house a department store with the largest shop space in Japan. Its middle floors will be occupied by business offices, which are more spacious than most of the offices in Osaka, and its upper floors by an international-standard hotel, one of the best in Osaka. As such, this building is expected to further enhance the urban functions of the Abeno District. The building will also house an art museum and an observatory, and will serve as a new cultural and tourist center in the southern part of Osaka. Laboratories for Research of Health & Preventive Medicine of Osaka City University
The Laboratories for Research of Health & Preventive Medicine opened in the Abeno Campus of Osaka City University, where its medical school is located, as a department of the university’s Research Center for Industry Innovation, an organization established to promote industry-university-government cooperation to help boost local industries. In addition, the Center for Drug & Food Clinical Evaluation was established within Osaka City University Hospital to facilitate the development of functional foods and medical supplies, the evaluation of safety and efficacy of such products, and the R&D of disease prevention technologies and medical equipment.
