Midosuji has been a popular street with residents and visitors since 1937 when it was constructed. In April 2001, Osaka launched an action plan to revitalize the street. Economic organizations, civil groups, and governmental agencies are all taking part in this initiative.

The Shinsaibashi area is home to an array of world-renowned brand name shops directly managed by the manufacturers.

| Hommachi Garden City In the "special urban renaissance district" where the Midosuji street and Hommachi-dori street cross, the "Hommachi Garden City" building is constructed, and is over 130 meters tall, higher than the maximum building height conventionally permitted in the Midosuji District. As a new landmark of Osaka, this building accommodates an indoor public square and corridor in the lower floors, has first-class business functions to cater to the needs of the companies in the Midosuji business zone, and houses the St. Regis Osaka Hotel, renowned for its quality service, which opened in October 2010. |
