Growth Strategy Hub
The Growth Strategy Hub is a plan proposed by Osaka City to the national government with an aim to strengthen the city’s “Growth Strategy Hub” by taking advantage of the privileges afforded under the “Comprehensive Special Zone Plan” established by the Japanese government according to the new national growth strategy (which was approved by the Cabinet on June 18, 2010). Osaka City has already designated the Osaka Station District and the Yumeshima and Sakishima Districts as “Strategic Growth Special Zones,” in the hope that these districts will play a leading role in boosting the Japanese economy, backed by positive policy measures such as deregulation and preferential taxation, and take the lead in the international competition between fast-growing cities in Southeast Asia.
Osaka Station District: Umekita Project
The Osaka Station District is at the core of the Kansai Region, and constitutes one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world. Designated as a Strategic Growth Special Zone, the district is expected to facilitate the creation of new businesses, taking advantage of its “concentration of intellectual resources,” comprised of people, materials and information.
Yumeshima District and Sakishima Cosmosquare District
Intensive investment will continue to be directed toward the “Yumeshima and Sakishima Districts,” which were designated as Strategic Growth Special Zones along with the “Osaka Station District.” Specifically, these districts will be home to next-generation growth industries, where intellectual resources will be put to practical use.
