Panasonic Corporation Energy Company

- ■ President Mr. Naoto Noguchi
- We, at Panasonic, aim to become the industry’s No. 1 Environmental Innovation Company, and give special emphasis to the lithium-ion battery business as one of our core business areas. In selecting the site for our new main lithium-ion battery factory, we determined it would be economically rational to construct a new factory in Suminoe ward in Osaka City, because of the proximity to our R&D center and the consequent ease of coordination between manufacturing and R&D sectors which is of critical importance for manufacturers; the location in the port area and the convenient accessibility to expressways and Kansai International Airport, which together provides an advantage in logistics; and the availability of Osaka City’s subsidy program. In anticipation of the expansion of the new markets for environmentally-friendly vehicles and power storage systems for home use, the Panasonic Group, which was recently joined by Sanyo Electric, will continue efforts to contribute to environmental protection while developing our energy business in a compatible manner.

Daicel Chemical Industries, Ltd.
- ■ President and CEO / Daisuke Ogawa
- A few years ago, during an expressway construction project, we had to relocate our head office. During the site selection process, Osaka was chosen as the most promising location, for the following reasons: many of the business partners of our sales and back-office sections are concentrated in Osaka; also, a site around Osaka Station was regarded as the best possible choice, considering the frequent need for business trips between our head office and plants, many of which are located in western Japan.
Moreover, the Osaka City Government introduced us to an incentive program and provided other appropriate support services in a timely manner. We therefore decided that in the future we could expect to receive excellent administrative services in Osaka when needed, so chose to establish our head office in the City.
