Greentech Startup PEEL Lab Establishes Japanese Subsidiary in Osaka

PEEL Lab K.K. is a greentech startup that upcycles plant and fruit waste into plant-based leather.

PEEL Lab creates products made from sustainable and innovative materials based on three major activity themes: 1) upcycle food loss, 2) prevent animal cruelty and 3) reduce carbon emission. Plant-based materials developed to promote animal welfare resemble the feel and texture of traditional leather and are officially recognized by PETA (the largest animal welfare organization in the U.S.).

In March 2022, PEEL Lab was awarded the “Sustainable Development Award” at the French Business Awards 2022 organized by CCI France Japon. Going beyond Japan, the company is also attracting attention from overseas organizations.

PEEL Lab K.K. has established a Japanese subsidiary in Osaka to expand the scope of its activities in environmentally friendly businesses and contribute to the creation of a sustainable society. The company is looking for people who want to make the world a better place, with the goal of replacing 5% of the Japanese leather market to plant-based materials by 2030. PEEL Lab is also open to collaboration with companies, individual designers, and artisans who wish to develop bags and accessories using plant-based leather.

PEEL Lab wants to share this NEXT Material with kids, parents and schools through its plant based leather Randoseru - the first in Japan.
Their next Randoseru will be even lighter to school children to carry.
