Urban Development Projects

Osaka is the center of Kansai, one of the world’s preeminent metropolitan regions. Osaka is home to west Japan’s largest terminal at the Osaka Station area and offers exceptional access both from within Japan and overseas. Osaka is currently undergoing multiple large-scale development projects, including Yumeshima with its extensive development sites, in order to expand the business opportunities available here.


Umekita Area

Referred to as Osaka's last premier district, Umekita is a 24ha development site situated on the north side of Osaka Station where projects are now underway to capitalize on its excellent location and, with the help of industry, government, and academia, form bases for creating new industries. The Osaka Station District has also been designated as a special zone by the government, offering businesses who meet specific conditions a variety of support and services including tax incentives.

Yumeshima

Located in the Osaka Bay area, Yumeshima is an artificial island home to Japan's foremost container terminal, with full road and highway access throughout Kansai. Based on ideas from both private and public enterprises, Yumeshima is currently undergoing conceptual planning for developing the entire island. This is being done with the aim of making a base for international tourism that attracts global investment and bringing together industries leading the way in creating new technologies and services.

Major Business Areas

Some areas in the city have been designated as Special Urban Renaissance Districts, under which urban development is being implemented to incorporate more attractive urban functionalities.

  • Shin-Osaka

    A highly demanded business district in a prime location, with the transportation advantage of an arrival and departure station for the shinkansen (bullet train).   • O B P/Kyobashi
